Glitchmachines - Hysteresis

Hysteresis, by Glitchmachines, is a glitch delay processor 'geared toward creating robotic artifacts and abstract musical malfunctions', and it's wonderfully full-featured for a free plug-in.

The plug-in can be used to create classic delay effects, but what it is really meant for is the creation of glitchy, stuttering effects that can be tempo-synced to your project. The input signal is first sent through a delay line, before passing through a stutter processor, a lowpass filter, and then another delay line on the opposite channel, which itself can be modulated to create chorus-like effects. Finally, the output of the second delay is routed back to the first channel.

This creative routing allows for some extreme creative processing; reverse delays, noisy pitch-shifting, raw granulation and much more. You can hear it in action in the demo below

Hysteresis comes with over 100 presets that have been programmed by Glitchmachines' sound designers. The user interface is intuitive, and this really is a plug-in that invites experimentation – you'll no doubt be adding your own new settings to that preset list before too long!

Hysteresis is available as a 32 or 64 bit plug-in for PC and Mac (Mac OSX 10.7 or above is required). It comes in both VST and AU versions, and you can download it from here.
