Hornet - Harmonics

'Harmonics' is a really interesting little plug-in from Hornet, which they describe as a 'flexible harmonic wave shaper'. Essentially, it is a harmonic distortion plug-in that can be used to warm up a sound, but it approaches this concept in an unusual way. This novel approach means that the user is given an unusual amount of control over how the distortion colours the source signal.

The plugin provides 10 harmonic generators.  You can independently set the amplitude and phase of each of these, increasing or decreasing the impact of the harmonic on the input signal. The resulting sine wave equivalent shape is displayed on the right-hand side of the user interface.

While you will mostly use this plug-in for gently 'warming' your source audio, it can also be used for more extreme forms of distortion. For example, if you drag the fundamental frequency slider all the way to zero, you will get a 'broken record' type effect. The best thing about this plug-in however, is the amount of control that it gives you. There are a number of useful presets, and it's incredibly easy to tweak these to the needs of your source material with the individual harmonic sliders.

Harmonics is available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX formats and is 64 bit compatible on both Mac and PC. You can download it for free from the Hornet Plugins website if you share the page via one of your social media channels.
