SoundGym Hero: Leon Vissers

Leon Vissers in his home music production studio

Dj, Music Producer, and Father of two, Currently from the Netherlands, Leon Vissers AKA "Le One Siverss" is this month's SoundGym Hero!

Who are you, and where are you from?

Le One Siverss is my artist name as a Dj and Producer. If you puzzle a bit you will find my original name, given by my parents 41 years ago, Leon Vissers. I live in the Netherlands and am father of two beautiful daughters, thanks to my wife :). I live in the south of the Netherlands in a small village with the advantage of nature around the corner. So when I jump out of bed my morning routine starts with an exercise, either a run in the woods or a Soundgym game in my studio.

How did you get into music?

Music has always been in my life, not making music but playing music as a Dj. I started in the 90s with a passion for electronic music, mainly house and trance. In the last few years, I became more and more an all-around wedding Dj without being aware of it. I was not playing the tracks which I loved anymore. So I decided to stop my wedding Dj business and get back to my passion, electronic music. I wanted to produce my own music so I started with piano lessons and took a study “Pro audio engineer and music producer” by Sound education Netherlands. I just finished my study and released my first track.

What do you like to do for fun outside of working on music?

I love spending time with my wife and kids outside and I am really in a vibe when I am in the DIY mode. Building a playhouse for my children or refurbishing an old barn. This was also useful for my studio because I made my own studio furniture and speaker stands.  I love to do this because it feels good to design and create things by yourself.

What's your most useless skill or talent?

That’s definitely overthinking. My mind is like a source of thoughts that keep running in my mind, things that have happened or things that could happen in the future. Unfortunately, It also creates negative emotions and It can take me out of the present time. It took me down about 3 years ago. Luckily I found tools and trained myself to deal with it, recognize it and choose to let it go instead of letting it take over.

What inspires you to keep making music?

Music is the only communication that speaks directly to your emotions without the barrier of language. It is just fascinating how this is even possible. You hear music and it can take you directly into another state of mind. Being able to create music that moves people and gives them positive vibes, that is my drive. I read a book by steven covey which mentioned, “begin with the end in mind”.  If I want to achieve one thing in life it is being able to create music that inspires people and gives them a feeling of joy and energy.

If you could sit down to a session with any artist, who would it be?

If I could choose without boundaries of time it would be Freddy Mercury. Musically I could learn a lot. The way how Queen has combined all different styles of music is inspiring. All songs have their own unique sound and a wide variety of styles but are still recognizable as queen.

Any habits you have before starting a session?

I just mentioned my skill of overthinking and creating music is not something that happens with a lot of thoughts in your mind. I learned breathing techniques from Wim Hof. Doing a deep breathing session brings a great piece of mind so I can slow down my brain and have less pressure to create something.

If you could pick one, what would be the theme song of your life?

At this moment it is definitely my track “Let your Mind Set free” which is the result of belief and hard work. If you want to achieve something, the very first thing you have to do is get your thoughts under control and create a positive Mindset that believes you can do it.

“Mind, set me free, let me be what I want”

If you are aware of your limiting thoughts and don’t let them distract you, you will be what you already are.

“Mind, set me free, let me be what I am”

What is your favorite piece of music gear you own?

My Roland VK-1000 Rhodes piano.  for the past two years, I've been learning how to play the piano on this instrument, I really love it. It has great organ, e-piano, and synth sounds which can be tweaked with drawbars and it has a very nice leslie simulator.

=What is your favorite SoundGym feature?

EQ Cheetah t's a fast game and it triggers my drive of winning. As a result, I often play it over and over again until I have leveled up. A good way to learn the frequency spectrum.

What does the future hold for Leon Vissers?

A career as a Dj and producer in electronic music, creating house tracks with an energetic and positive vibe that makes people want to dance and gives them a feeling of freedom.
