It takes time. I'm rockin level 9 and that's taken me almost a year and a half. Of course, I took the game out of rotation for about 6 months cause it was driving me crazy. I'm tryin again.

A word of advice folks, pay close attention to your monitor setup. For me that was a complete revelation. Careful placement of speakers, or some really good headphones (HD650's, LCD's) combined with some acoustic treatment and room correction like Sonarworks will make it so so so much easier to do. If you're not getting anywhere for months then this is most likely your issue - it's not you it's your set up!

@Ralph Stokes This is good advice, but I had all that in place (except Sonarworks), so yeah, it was me. lol
The good news I can offer is once I knew the frequency spectrum enough to beat level 1, I had the foundation to improve much more quickly from there. It took me five months to beat level 1, then got to level 11 over the next three months. Just keep at it and eventually it'll "click."

Thats true, it does get easier. But do you know for sure your monitor set up is as good as it can be? In my experience it requires constant tweaking and improvement (especially as your ears develop) and it's a good idea to revisit it every once in a while. Even now I'm on level 44, a bad monitor system or room will easily trip me up - that goes for more than just EQ as well, particularly stereo imaging!

It also helps to remember that unless we have a medical condition we're all capable of hearing the same frequencies, so the block is either mental or environmental (or usually both!). Certainly the monitor set up is not all there is too it, but it will help a lot.

Best of luck anyway, keep at it and congrats on making it this far!

I keep seeing people bring up your listening environment as a cause. Let me tell you how to get started checking your rooms acoustics.

https://www.roomeqwizard.com/

this is a free software that measures your rooms acoustics. Now this program is crazy accurate so I'd youtube how to use this program as a bedroom producer. It takes a awhile to do this process, but once it's done....it's done. and you only have to redo this if you move rooms or move things around in the room.

Remember, we want soft stuff everywhere. Get some tapestries for the wall and a nice foam absorption kit around 40 bucks and youtube WHERE to install them in your room. (Get Bass Traps first!, they have a HUGE impact, and your neighbors will thank you.
