Sound engineer, guitarist, and analog devotee based in Moscow, Alexey records and mixes at a professional studio by day and writes heavy music with his band Bipolar Station by night, bringing the same sharp ears and creative conviction to both. @radiokrol radiokrolikiv is this month's SoundGym Hero!
Congrats Alexey ! It's nice to learn more about you, your gear and your studio in Moscow. (You take what's on your soul and put it into a new song or mix), it's exactly the same for me, it's like a diary ! Good road and enjoy tea time ;)
It was great reading about you, Alexey! Keep us posted about the music you're making with your band! We indeed imprint a part of who we are into our music, ideally.
To celebrate, we're throwing a Duels party this Sunday, 18:00–20:00 GMT (2 PM ET / 11 AM PT / 19:00 London / 20:00 Berlin).
Two hours to: Match live opponents 1v1 and put your ears on the line, buy a friend a virtual drink at the Duels Bar, and spin the wheel for your daily luck.
I'm unsure where to go with this query since I've had no response from support, so I reckon it was best to ask whether anyone else had the same issue.
I've noticed a few of the games aren't showing up on my daily workout, notably Sonar Beast, Bass Detective and Feedback Eliminator. Has anyone come across this problem, and knows a solution ?
hi!! If you are on a Pro tier, SoundGym allows you to fully customize your daily training lineup. It’s incredibly easy to accidentally toggle a game off or have a preset update override your preferences.
Go to your Training tab, click on Customize Workout (or your training program settings), and verify that those specific games are checked. I hope this helps!
Dr. Compressor, two questions: 1) What do you guys listen for to hear the different release times? I feel like I have the attack times dialed in pretty well, but release time is harder for me to hear. Any tips? 2) Any tips for hearing ratio differences? When the attack time is fast, the ratio differences are extreme and easy to hear, but for slow attack times, it's hard for me to hear a difference between the different ratio settings.
Hey everyone, can someone give me some tips on how to play Dr. Compressor?
I listen for the attack and sustain mostly on the transients. Usually the sample where the attack is rounder and shorter its the sample without compression (or at least less compression). And when the transients sustain are longest it is the most compressed version (and vice versa).
But sometimes it seems like this is flipped. Is that because some samples get compressed with a slower attack or faster release? If so, what other characteristics should i listen for?
Yes i think i struggle with it also, i believe the volume perceived can trick you, it can sound louder but not necessarily more compressed, it's not necessarily aimed to tame transients ; you have to find other ways to monitor other parts ; Daniel gave a good one i'll try using his monitoring tip
