How do you guys deal with the frustration/negative feelings when continually failing a game? I love the practice and I can tell I'm learning every day... but man sometimes I just get irritated... anybody else?
It comes around every so often. Generally, I walk away for a while, focus on something else for the week, and then come back. So long as I didn't go weeks or months without, I typically pick it back up and hit a high score right away. Sometimes you just need a break.
Well it depends. If I feel a negative feeling I normally identify the thought that caused the frustration and question it's validity. Often we are actually imposing some standard on ourselves that isn't justified. Also, I go and put effort in to finding new angles or approaches. I ask the community here for specific advice on what I am working on (recently I asked about distorted reality) and that helped as I learned new strategies.
In the face of frustration we need to address both our mindset on terms of unrealistic expectations to develop the patience to continue learning as well as review and improve on strategy... Often by modelling those who are already successful at what we want to do.
Oh yes!! I've lost count of the number of times I've nearly blown up my screen! And also screaming in my office and insulting ahah But in fact the key is that even after all these frustrations, just have to keep going, or the next day if it's too hard. And gradually manage to get less angry (and that's a real challenge too!).
