I've been using a cheap (£10) set of Sony in-ears 99% of the time so far. And have nearly reached diamond in a matter of a couple months... Shows that the gear is less important than the ears.

I do hear with more clarity using proper headphones, but most of what I need to be able to hear for these games is available in these cheapy ones.

@Matt Cleary Are the Sony noise canceling headphones? And, how much time per day do you spend on ear training?

No, just super cheap Sony MDR-EX15AP... But I do live in a quiet area, so that allows for no need to have noise cancellation.

I was hitting it harder in the first month or so until I hit golden ears, about 1-2 hours a day.

Now I'm doing about 30 mins or so, max 1 hour, depending on if I fancy pushing on 1 weak point additional to the daily workout, here and there.

I've gotten about 50-60 workouts done so far. Done a workout everyday since I started pro... So I guess that means I'm coming up for month 2.
