I do not understand how to hear compression. Played the same game 10 times and my score didn't even improve. Does anyone have a link to a video explanation or just some sort of descriptor of what I am supposed to be listening for?

Hey there, I really like this video:

And don't underestimate how much the speakers or headphones you're using can make a difference in your ability to hear stuff. I could not hear compression at all until I started using good headphones (unless the settings were absolutely insane), and I always thought it a problem with my skills. But think of it this way: if you can't see color, maybe you're colorblind... but maybe you're looking at a black and white TV. Your equipment really can make or break your ability to hear stuff sometimes. What cans or speakers are you using? Try listening to sounds with extreme settings (remember to roughly volume match) and you might start hearing the difference. As you get better, you'll notice more and more subtlety.

@Darro 2017 Hiya. I follow Joe Gilder and got the email with the link he referred to. I put watching it on the back burner but now that I see you referring to I think I take a listen. Thanks

Justin, some great tips and video recommendations here. I'm not amazing at identifying or calling out, oh it's 4:1 or the threshold is set at this or that. However, what has worked for me consistently is sitting with the sound for a bit and then A/Bing. For me, the compressed version (which I can hear relatively quicker on snare) sounds deeper, darker, farther back (though compression can make things louder), while the less compressed to me sounds clearer. When it comes to one sounding louder than the other, I A/B them and turn down the louder one to see if it's clearer. Hope that helps man! Just the way I approach it. Good luck....and tons, tons of patience.

It's not a question of chance ! Every person that hit the Top of the scores worked hard to go above 80, it takes months of work, it's extraordinary to have 30 one day and have more than 90 the next day.. That's why I ask if you can make a video screen shoot (as I made in my YouTube channel) to show this unbelievable 97's results, it could be very helpful for everyone !!
