Ligovo – Warmth Of Time

Each month we shine the spotlight on one SoundGym member by reviewing one of their tracks for our Music Spot feature. This month we focus on 'Warmth Of Time' from Swedish producer Jaroslav Rosenqvist, aka Ligovo.

'Warmth of Time', as the title suggests, is a soft-focus haze of nostalgic ambient. The piece is bookended by field recordings that evoke calm, natural settings; we hear waves crashing and birds tweeting. This sets the tone for a mellow and meditative four minutes.

The track is built around twisting, spidery piano motifs and '80s synth drums. These are set against the backdrop of a constantly shifting organic-synthetic soundscape. Although the mood remains consistent throughout, almost no two bars are the same as each musical part undergoes constant but gradual change. This is an important feature of engaging ambient music; as a listener you can allow it to drift into the background, but it also progresses enough to hold your focus should you choose to listen to it more intently – and it rewards you if you do so. The production here is warm and rich, the parts fuzzy around the edges, melding into one another to create a gorgeous soundscape.

If you enjoy 'Warmth Of Time', there is plenty more music from Ligovo to check out on his Soundcloud and YouTube channels. You can also follow him over on Instagram and Facebook.
