Pluet – If I Swallow The Light

Each month we shine the spotlight on one SoundGym member by reviewing one of their tracks for our Music Spot feature. This month we focus on 'If I Swallow The Light' by producer and multi-instrumentalist Renato Antić AKA Pluet.

Antić is based in the northern Croatian town of Crikvenica, and was once a member of the band Godsbane. In 2016 that band went their separate ways, and Antić decided to go solo. The inspiration  for him to begin recording as Pluet came largely from the music of Steven Wilson, who rose to prominence as lead guitarist for Porcupine Tree. That influence really shows through on 'If I Swallow The Light'.

The track is an instrumental, but it is one that carries a narrative; explained on the Pluet YouTube Channel. The song is a musical telling of the story of a man released from prison while still not rehabilitated. His jail time has only served to deepen his depravity and sense of anger. Once loose, he sets about searching for a victim…

'If I Swallow The Light' is five and a half minutes of blistering prog-metal, and despite Antić's undoubted chops a multi-instrumentalist and producer, the indisputable star of the show is the lead guitar. The virtuoso playing showcases a wide range of techniques and a definite ear for melody.

If you want to hear more from Pluet, you can do so on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
