SoundGym Hero: Steve Rinaldi
Trombonist, physicist, and recording engineer with a soft spot for capturing live ensembles, Steve Rinaldi never set out to be an audio engineer, just a chance childhood lesson on a neighbor's trombone, decades split between the bandstand and a career steering quantum computing programs, and a growing collection of microphones pointed at concert halls, before discovering that the ear, like a laser, can be trained. @Steve Rinaldi is this month's SoundGym Hero!

They should have had you in the Dos Equis commercial for -most interesting man in the world- I've never known a physicist that records small ensembles and plays trombone! That's awesome.
Congrats @Nicolas Bautista for winning the Golden Ears Award!

Congrats Egor! ✨✨✨
which artists sounds do you use more often? which ones do you think are more balanced and suitable for training? Alternative Rock II is a favorite here
thank you so much!

Use all of them. The more varied sounds you train on, the more well rounded your ears will become and the more situations you'll be prepared for.

The only exception to this is if you're playing games that need the full range of sounds and you're using a sound that doesn't have them. A vocal with nothing below 150hz and nothing above 10khz is obviously not the best to use for EQ Mirror because it might randomly boost 120hz or 12khz and you'll have to guess.

Obviously, if you work exclusively with heavy metal music, you'll benefit more from having metal sounds on heavy rotation - but you'll still learn more by switching them out pretty regularly for something completely different.

Thanks! I agree we have to vary the sounds, but some packs are better than others. For example, I love the Indie Rock pack, it's very well mixed and has cool songs, which always helps when you're listening to lots of repetitions. However some of the songs are cut in a filtered section (which is the case in other packs too), so it's not unusual to get a question where the bass is boosted, but there's no bass in that particular part
Alternative Rock II is a good example of how all snippets can be useful because they're all full-range, and the songs are good too :)
Huge congrats to @Doctor MojoTrip - 'Apotheosis of the Mundane' just took the top spot this week. Drop a prop, leave a comment, and give it a spin:

Thanks everyone!
Is the Reverb Wizard broken or something? that is clearly a dry vocal and a reverbed one and when I clicked on Reverbed its wrong, like clearest day and night
