Hello everyone. I hope all is well for you. So the time has come. My first release is out into the world. I have it on YouTube but also submitted it to the HOFA Contest. I would appreciate it you have a listen and even vote for it on the contest if you like it. It will mean a lot to me.
Some background for anyone interested: My track Dasein was composed late 2024, back when I took seriously my love for music and begun learning the process of music production. Prior to that I had a few sporadic demos, no mixing, nothing. At the same time, I joined SoundGym but only took it seriously later in 2025 when I paid for subscription. I postponed a lot the release of Dasein. I tried to hone my ears and learn mixing/mastering, tried to find time for it while running a pharmacy, doubted myself more times than I can count, and in the meantime recorded another 7-8 tracks (it was the only thing I knew how to do). Recently I said, ‘this can’t go on forever’, and decided to go all in and finish the thing. What you hear is the result. I put a lot of myself into it. I also designed the cover and the logo, which have a lot of meaning to me. I want to thank everyone here who anticipated this release through our personal communication. Your eagerness helped me move forward.
A sidenote: The title comes from the book ‘Sein und Zeit’ (Being and Time) by Heidegger, and it’s the central word of the book. It signifies the mode of being that we humans fall into. We are not merely alive, but we Exist, and that very existence is an issue for us (meaning we are confronted with it as a topic of inquiry).
@Alexandross Moreno, greetings from Cyprus. I take it as a compliment that, even though you’re not into rock, you liked it! More important to me, is the fact that I could be a source of inspiration. I would be happy to share the things you’ve mentioned at some point. As an appetizer, I should say that I’m as flawed a human being as the next guy. The short answer as to how I balance everything is that I constantly think that I don’t. Whatever balance I may or may not achieve, is the result of constant tension between the things I want to do, the things I want to be, and the things that life throws at me. Perhaps my biggest weakness (also strength?) is that I would like to be so much more than I practically can in a lifetime. This in fact leads to a lot of procrastination, and a feeling of constantly falling behind on what I want to do.
@Lio LM I’m glad you could stick to it till the end. Personally, I don’t even realize it’s 9 mins, but I have a thing for long tracks.
@Mike Benza it’s nice to hear that you’ve enjoyed the guitars even though it’s not your style of rock!
@Jeff Craft thanks! Putting aside having a real drummer, which is of course the best option, any suggestions as to how to make the programmed drums sound more natural?
this guy really knows how to cook! I was not waiting in vain for :) I had no doubt that it would be something worthy, but the result even exceeded my expectations. it's powerful. both artistically and technically. and your two years are by no means procrastination. The path from 'Sporadic Demo' to this is a significant path. a path traveled not at a walking light pace. and I'm proud to have met you before you became famous :)
As some of us know, the hourly BeatRace competition has not been working correctly since Monday. I have opened a ticket and I know other participants have too. I have suggested that SoundGym post in Dashboard giving us an update on the situation – that is, most importantly, when the issue is going to be resolved.
