which artists sounds do you use more often? which ones do you think are more balanced and suitable for training? Alternative Rock II is a favorite here
thank you so much!

Use all of them. The more varied sounds you train on, the more well rounded your ears will become and the more situations you'll be prepared for.

The only exception to this is if you're playing games that need the full range of sounds and you're using a sound that doesn't have them. A vocal with nothing below 150hz and nothing above 10khz is obviously not the best to use for EQ Mirror because it might randomly boost 120hz or 12khz and you'll have to guess.

Obviously, if you work exclusively with heavy metal music, you'll benefit more from having metal sounds on heavy rotation - but you'll still learn more by switching them out pretty regularly for something completely different.

Is the Reverb Wizard broken or something? that is clearly a dry vocal and a reverbed one and when I clicked on Reverbed its wrong, like clearest day and night

Depends how the third sounded, you picking the one that is odd one out so if the 3rd was also reverbed than the dry is the right pick.

You're misunderstanding the game... read the objective again:

Reverb Wizard / Space & Time
You’ll hear three sounds - one has different reverb settings than the others. Can you identify which one stands out?

The goal is to find which of the 3 is --different-- not which has more reverb.

Good luck!

Dancing Queen just turned 50, and the strangest thing about it is still th
Disco in 1976 lived around 120 BPM. ABBA put this one at 100 and refused to speed it up. That gap is the whole feel. Room between the kick and the snare for everything else to sit down in.

Two more things from the session that stuck with us: Benny took the rough backing track home and Frida started crying, before she or Agnetha had sung a single note on it. And Tretow got his huge sound by recording the backing track twice and nudging the tape speed between passes, because nobody in Stockholm was paying for five guitarists.

Full breakdown is up on the blog: https://www.soundgym.co/blog/item?id=dancing-queen-turns-fifty

Always loved starting with the chorus, with the vocals coming in half-way through. Such a power move and makes you realise there's a lot of scope for really creative arranging even in the poppiest of pop songs. Every wedding DJ's favourite weapon, thins song :)

Benny and Bjorn were pop geniuses. and the singing, well - there is a reason we are still talking about them 50 years later.

Curious for those of you with Diamond Ears how long it took you to get there of (mostly) regular practice?

About 10 month. When working toward a goal, it's important to remember that the journey matters just as much as the destination. (I'm still enjoying the journey, with all its ups and downs. I believe persistence is key to staying the course.)

Thanks for the info all - I was just trying to gauge my progress and how slow/fast I am compared to the 'masters' 😀.

I can tell that I am hearing details that I couldn't before, so regardless of my level I am happy with my progress; and for me it is about improving what I an hearing so I can be a better engineer.

That's the key - as long as you're seeing progress, then you're doing the right thing. I often reflect back on how much more clearly/precisely I'm hearing things, and the new things I'm hearing, compared to a year or two ago. That's my real gauge on my progress.
Haven't been on SoundGym for years but it's good to be back. Starting from scratch but let's go!
@Ola Fredriksson just uploaded the song 'Gloria' to the SoundGym Charts.
