Hi all, sorry if this has been asked before, this is my first post here and I’m relatively new to the wonderful worlds of SoundGym and ToneGym.

In the games, why, when we get an answer wrong, do we go _backwards_??

E.g. you’re on, say Stage 10/12. Get it wrong, you go back to Stage 9/12! So you need to _redo_ a stage you’ve already passed, _as well as_ the next stage that you just failed. We’re kinda double-billed.

Why is that? It’s weird, and seems quite unfair.

Thanks in advance :)

So you can push over the obstacle of getting it wrong. It reinforces muscle memory by making sure you make less mistakes.

I would assume because the goal of these games is not to amass points or level up, but to increase skill.

If you are failing Stage 10, it is very possible that a lucky guess got you past the previous stage. If luck was not a factor, then you will easily pass Stage 9 again, and be back at Stage 10 for a proper challenge.

@John Gillespie put it well. The rules are fair, you just need to accept them as they are.
