Gabriel's story is both touching and inspiring. He shared a beautiful post in our community when he released 'A Living' earlier this year. Two years ago, he asked himself the simple but brave question, 'what would my biggest disappointment be if I were on my deathbed right now?' He found that the answer was 'not to dare start making music'. He decided to dedicate at least an hour a day to learning how to use a DAW. Very soon he discovered that he didn't need to set the one hour timer any more – as he was working for comfortably longer than that each day.
Two years on, and 'A Living' is the fruit of his labour. The song is sparse and pretty, and splits roughly into three sections. It begins with a delicate melodic phrase that is repeated as layers of ethereal vocals shift behind it. After a pregnant pause, the songs refrain enters; 'if you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?' The melancholy sentiment behind this unanswered question bleeds through the track and into the final part of the song, a somber, gentle piano outro. It is a captivating debut.
