This was so good! I love how powerful the drums sound and also the panning. My only critique is the piano intro is a little quiet compared to the rest of your mix. I liked the overall chill and also crunchy sounding vibe. Nice job!!
the main piano (the crushed one) in the first minute is too much for me and makes the whole mix muddy. I would go back to the fx and remix it. at 0:32 I would add some top melody to the piano.
the next section doesn't offer enough musically I think, the drum element is a bit too rudimentary for me, personally. I would highlight some other element.
the piano at 2:30 comes out of nowhere with little build-up towards it. by the way, did you SC it to the kick? doesn't sound like it. I know you play around the kick mostly, but where it lands on the one it doesn't really let the kick shine.
Would also add some more tape flutter or wobble to the organ (the one that's prominent at around 1:30) and maybe a bit of a LP to make it more lo-fi.
for the last drop (when the main piano returns) it doesn't feel like it has evolved much. maybe that's a genre and you want to keep it on the same level.
I know not all of this is mixing advice but you can take the parts you want and leave the rest ofc
Overall cool minimal track that I would like to hear in the background of a cafe:)
Hey, the piano is muddy on the low mids and a bit too distorted, also lacks contrast on the stereo image(lacks energy on mono). But you did a good job overall and a great job on drums!
I think it is a very solid mix and I think the sounds you created enbody a cool atmosphere and effectively convey emotions. I would say maybe try to find a more distinct ballance between the bass and the piano and maybe try to automate the volume of the piano because sometimes it feels in place but sometimes it jumps out just a little too much. But I wouldn't change much to perserve the beatiful atmosphere you present. I also think the contrast between the polished drums and the dirty and muddy paino is kinda point of the track so maybe I would just really automate the volume of the piano more :)
Hi Sam :) Yes, I also think you should work on the piano, in my humble opinion I think it's a bit too dirty. You could try to filter towards 60 hz and lighten up between 200 and 500/600 hz. ( to try). Otherwise, the atmosphere and idea is very interesting!
the start is a bit muddy imo, when the beat drops the piaono is a bit too distorted imo, the drums sound good though. If I'm brutally honest I'd probably go back to production/arrangement. It really has some good ideas in it, ngl. I just think there is a bit of coherence lacking and you won't fix that with engineering the track. Maybe you did the production spread out over multiple sessions? I'd really recommend trying to get at least the core idea down in a single session. I really like the switchups just not the piano parts. So keep it going and keep sharing with us, really liked to listen to it!
I agree with Aike particular in where the piano plays. I'd try to be a little more intentional when it comes to tonal harmony. I also agree with other comments saying it is a bit gainy/distorted, or could use some eq. That said. I found a lot of the harmonic ideas interesting and jazzy.... just not all quite sticking the landing. Likewise, the rhythmic ideas through the middle section are super outgoing and adventurous and I like that, but just a couple of points where you rein it in to make sure the groove isn't lost would really sell those as being purposeful.
Hi! Super chill track with a cool ominous vibe. Love the subtle sweeps and background samples. I can mostly agree on what previous posters have already stated: piano too low in the intro; main piano a bit too crushed in the context and needs some level automation. You could go a number of ways with the piano; either tone down the distortion a bit and add tremolo to make it even wonkier, OR you could add some more high end to the drums to increase the contrast that @Tomas Morgan mentions. In fact, I think you should add more high end ot the drums either way, as I'm finding the track somewhat lacking in the high end (purposedly or not). At 1:35-1:49 I think the noise gets a little too noticeable. Also, the two dips in volume due to the sidechaining at 1:41 and 1:44 are weird to the ear. The organ harmonies that enter at that point should rise faster and more - they should be overwhelming no later than 2:13. :)
Hey man, it's different but has a nice vibe. The piano gets a bit annoying once you listen the song again. Mainly because what others already said. More automation on the drums, different fx busses would really add more interest to the track. Besides that really good work!
