damn it feels strange and great at the same time, this track is hot !
nice vibes on the guitar parts and tripping voices !
the only thing thats bothering me is a reso frequency on the snare mostly around 450hz and maybe 950hz . and sometimes the bass is taking all the space on the right and voices are a bit masked by the drums.

who was your source of inspiration for this mix ?
(pink floyd,beachboys,thedoors,supertramp,heatwave ? ) i guess they were from california :p
reminds me a lot of bands like khruangbin, tame impala, kendra morris ... as modern doing a vintage style.

Thank you @Tim Weirich and @Darth Fader
Yes, Darth. You absolutely nailed the inspirations. Khruangin and Tame are a big one for me. Thanks for your feedback. I already made the bass a bit quieter and the vocals just a tiny bit louder! Thanks!

Awesome song and mix. Only thing that seems a little out of balance but could just be taste is in the first quarter of the song the lead guitar doing chords seems a little loud and at times is distorting. That could be on purpose though. It does balance out later on in the track.

i love this song. your panning choices are super interesting. this sounds like i am watching a live band from just outside stage left. the bass guitar is just perfect. the dynamics are great. i'm racking my brain trying to find some way to improve it.

really good job! the mix sounds amazing. I was just wondering if it could help to open the super high frequencies in the air band just a little. But thats the only thing I would try to add to this mix. 👌

Thanks a lot @Q Carver @Ziggy Shpakovsky @Ron Allen @Patrick Huber .
Yeah, Q Carver. I noticed the distortion, too now.. its intended but sometimes it was too much and was clouding the vocal line too hard. I reuploaded a corrected new version with the same link. Thanks a lot!

@Patrick Huber Yes, I gave the high frequencies aboves 9khz just another boost around 1-1,5 db with a Neve Type Software EQ. Thanks for the tip!

Lovely track and like Stephen am admiring 😀 Only one thing jumped out at me and this is totally preference based so take it with a pinch of salt, the bass at times is panned hard to the right and sort of distracted me away from the rest of the tract. Just feels like it needs to come back and rejoin the others.

I'm just starting out in this mix real, but i think i can give a listener point of view... The sound sounded reeeeeealy smooth and i really enjoyed that... The only thing i have to say, is that ik it may be preference, but i find distracting the bass hard panned
But overall, its freking amazing :)

Great song, totally 60's....the bass panned hard R is quite daring (can't deny it...rs)....jus like some productions of 60's(Velvet Underground, for example).
I like it 👍

[listening on speakers]:
I feel the bass is a bit too forward, a missing a little bit that Clinky pick bass feeling ( maybe EQ the pick a bit more and lower the volume down a bit ? ), But i really like the panned bass ! That's my kind of stuff right there ! :D
I really like the voices and harmonies, they sound amazing, and their tones really fit the song !!
The drum feels a bit too large as well ? like somehow it's a bit more present, whereas for that kind of vibe, i'd see it more wayyyy back, with less presence maybe

[listening on headphones]

second that for the drum , specifically the snare actually.
That way the bass feel even more separated, maybe having a slap of it on the other side could help ? but i'm not sure..
I think there's one of the guitar on the right which carry a lot of noise ? the one doing the little ad-lib, i am not 100% sure but suddenly the right ear gets a very loud pink noise type of artefact ?
Around 1'50, there's something in the middle, kind of like lips licking or some weird noise ?

[ musical aspect] Damn, i really like these melodic bass lines, and the contrast between the more energetic part and very chill bits. I think you really nailed the part with the different guitars interacting with each other as well, overall really enjoyed listening to it !
As mentionned below, i get a strong neo psych vibe, and that is right up my alley !
( Maybe i would have add just a bit more energy on the drum, but that's personal taste there haha )

thank you so much for your responses... I did another corrected version with some minor adjustments.. your comments really gave me a good new perspective! Thanks
@Brice Strebler @ALEX INFANTI yeah, i knew that panning the bass would irritate a lot of listeners, which are not used to the panned sound of the 60s/70s. When I started the song I accidentely panned the bass to the right and it somehow felt familiar and right so I left it this way.. actually its quite subtle if you compare it to stuff like Beatles, Taxman
Fun fact: In Something (also by the beatles) you can hear the bass on the right side too. Didnt know that either- Just found this out right now ;D

Thanks @Andreas for posting examples. I learnt something new. I wonder why it feels so jarring to me; and if there was a reason for panning the bass in the 60s/70s i.e was it an artistic choice or there was some technical reason at the time. Thinking about it never noticed when listening to Beatles years ago. Thanks to the wonders of Soundgym how things have changed 😀

@Komoy Project Thank you so much for your feedback! This was really useful for me. The thing you meant on 1:50 is not noticable for me. Maybe its the cabassa sound? I used a cabassa as a shaker . Maybe thats what is irritating? With the drums you're absolutely right.. doesnt really fit the old genre.. maybe I'll put the drums back a bit.. you mean volumewise or more room glue? Thanks Komoy!

Yoh! This is great. Sends me back in time for sure! I have one question though, how did you manage to achieve the retro/vintage sound?? My guess would be you mainly used analogue gear for the processing....but I could be wrong. @Andreas Kaufmann

Nicely done, indeed! For even more authentic sound try to wash out the wide 3k region. I recorded a small sample of your track and put Saturn on 1k-6k range with Warm Tape saturation and it immediately sounds a step closer to the 60s.

@Cedz Imagination thanks for your comment! Actually I didnt use analog gear although I wished I had .. theres no money left for this..its all made in the box with plugins.. I have a Tascam Porta One for a Lofi cassette/tape sound which I didnt use. I used a lot of Sketch Cassette and other Lofi Plugins which have a strong color to get a more organic sound..
@Arnis Racinskis cool idea, do you mind sharing your experiment? I would be interested ;)
