Sounds good. It's definitely possible. I've never used anything but stock FL Studio plugins and free VSTs, and a few synths I had lying around ;)

I agree it sounds great! I'm getting the impression that the tom sound or the low-mids in general could come down and I find the off-beat hi-hat a bit harsh. But of course I'm only nitpicking for the sake of it. I love the spacey-ambient energy, very trippy. Take me to the rave, bro!

Hi Magnus :) Exactly, very often we believe that expensive machines or VSTs can make the difference and that without them it is not possible to make music. Certainly some of them have particular requirements, they can offer very pleasant and interesting colors and sounds, but if you can create with simple free plug-ins, when the time comes to spend some money, perhaps you will do it with an awareness of what we really have need. Hi Nicolae :) how are you? Listening again today with fresh ears, I actually hear the high frequencies a little harsh. Calculate that my reference also had 3 db more o_O Lately I've been having fun doing experiments. I'm learning many new techniques, but I still have to develop them well. Thanks for your comment ;)

P.s. I listened to the drums again... in fact they are not exactly on the grid, this effect is also given by the different modulation on the delays. So in your opinion it's too obvious, it seems like it's not in time?

hey man, free devices, cool! It's definitely possible! listening right now:

-the intro synth is warm and filtered, but then the drums aren't complimenting this (see next point)

-drums are a bit too punchy immediately. I would hold back a bit (reduce and/or filter (low-pass) and then later go into full drop mode. But I guess this is more of an arrangement thing. I feel it would really help the track though

-16th hats are a bit boring, I use RanPan to make them more interesting, also play with velocity or put an LFO FX on them, for subtle variations

-the lead around 1:24 is nice and wide, like it

-is the kick at 3:46 the same one as before? sounds better. By the way in ableton you can use Drum Buss to generate a sub for your kick (you probably already know this, but play around with it again maybe?)

-5:04 I hear distorting from the last synth, maybe you were clipping here?

-have you considered adding a vocal somehow? just for atmos or even phrases? maybe you'll find a good free one if that's the challenge

I downloaded a free synthesizer and decided to do everything with it and the stoc plug ins. Then I got involved and made this song with it. Exactly it's the filter that cuts and I definitely left overdrive too open.

I like this tune, a lot.

Beautiful melody, not too complicated so it's catchy! I'd LPF that pad before the reverb and oscillate that frequency so that it's in the back a little further and breathes in and out at the right moments. Just like open to compliment the lead melody sound here and there then drop into the back again.

The drums sound a little dry and could use some processing. Crunch, munch, randomness in the attacks (hihats).

Not sure how much sub the toms have, but since you don't have a bass, I'd consider either opening it up on the low end and sidechain to kick. Or adding another tom hit that is lower somewhere.

I'm sure you already know what more needs to be done lol
