Hi everyone!
I'm currently mixing my own first song and detected SoundGym this week! :)
Despite the backing vocals it's all selfmade, so I'm definitely biased...
Feedback and inputs are very welcome!
There is no mastering yet.
It's a OneDrive link because trebles sounded bad on Soundcloud, crashes and ss were kind of distorted.
Maybe something I have to dig deeper as well.. ;)

Seriously for a first song this is pretty good. There are a couple of things I want you to be aware of and I've attached a screenshot of my frequency analyzer. I'm hearing a lot of low mid resonances (250-500 peaks in the middle) in the vocals and some of the other instruments. You can EQ cut around that area but it would probably be best if you can use a multiband compressor if you have one (TDR Nova is free and I use it all the time). I also noticed all of the stereo width tends to lean to the left. You may want to pan the right instruments further and or increase their volume a bit to balance things out. You could also double the acoustic guitar and pan it right since the AC guitar is consistent throughout the song. Those are the two big things. Everything else I can think of would be more so on the subjective side of things but seriously, great job on this. You've got great potential if this is your first song.

Hey man, great first song! I liked the composition and the way u sing. only point of critique I have is that I cannot understand the lyrics 80% of the time. I lie the how your vocals sound, but I just can't understand what you say. So maybe a little more focus on how to pronouns the vocals more clearly, without losing the vibe you were going for.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Well, I tried to do some recordings before, when we did a demo tape with our band. Trying to record the entire band with acoustic drums, (loud) guit amps, etc in one room... I had no plan at all and the result was accordingly... So I didn’t count this one 😉
Besides that, I focused on playing different instruments so far.
One year ago I had the idea for this song, which is my own first. As I managed to play the guitars, where I have the least experience, it seemed feasible to play all instruments. So back then I've set the challenge to do so and to record it. Since I had some ideas for the backing vocals which were not feasible for me and also to add some more colour, I could get some really nice support there.
Roughly half a year I focused on recording and since half a year I’m mixing on this song... Maybe not best practice to stick to one song for so long… But this developed to my mixing learning song, whereby I always tried some new stuff after watching tons of YouTube tutorials and going back and forth again and again...
At the same time, the song became more and more important to me and now I don't want to screw it up and try to get the best out of it 😊

@Ziggy Shpakovsky thanks again!! 😊

@Kevin Koelzer thank you so much for your kind words and your constructive feedback, I really appreciate that a lot. I tried to fix the low mid issue with a dynamic EQ (Cubase stock plugin) and it sounds much better to me. So you are completely right, there were many instruments and vocals where the low mids were quite muddy and I didn’t notice that before…
Also the hint for less panning of the AC Guit is great and it sounds better to me. First I thought it might get in conflict with the lead vocals. A Vocal side-chained EQ on the AC Guit helped. In the second verse, Ac Guit pan changes a little more to left, to give room to the Wurli on the right.

@Leon Van Eijk thanks a lot for the kind words and your inputs, I will check that out as well. As I am not an English native speaker, I am aware that there will be always room for improvement. And also vocal recording technique.. this tutorial is still pending in the learning section 😉

This is the current state after your feedbacks:

Any more feedbacks or comments are very welcome!

Again, thank you all so much!! That was a great motivation booster and you made my first SoundGym week awesome! 😉

as an even greater extent a non-native English speaker, the pronunciation does not bother me at all! )))

I'm used to listening to songs of words in which I don't understand at all (but I love them no less).
how would I react to a song in a language that I know even less than English? in french... in italian... in spanish... i would react the same way))))
The main thing is that the song is good! ))))
(but working on diction, of course, is not forbidden! if you have such plans)

listened to the new version.
to evaluate the work on the bugs, you need to compare it A / B with the previous one ... but I did not do this ... excuse-moi
just listened to the impressions of listening to this option.

from what I thought:
1 el piano in the second verse perhaps quite a bit louder than it should?
I see it as a bit of a heap on the vocals.
or make it a little quieter,
or sidechain compr. from vocals
or dynamic equalization also on the sidechain from the vocals (Track Spacer. Sooth. FabFilter EO3. or the same Nova if it supports the sidechain. and MeldaProduction also has a device (and probably a bunch of other similar ones)

2 backing vocals at 02:30 too close to the listener. he's practically on the same line as me... and maybe he's too loud too...
probably it is possible and so, but it seemed to me that if you move it away, it might become better.

about the frequencies let the more experienced say.

@Ziggy Shpakovsky: Absolutely agree with your two hints, I noticed the same today. My ears were too tyred yesterday or I was focusing too much on other points and the leveling got worse, also on other instruments... I tried to fix that and exchanged the link in my comment just above.
