Hello Marysia !
I'm a french woman and started Soundgym 2 weeks ago !
I'm working everyday here ;)
Sometimes it's easy to get points and I go fast and sometimes it's more difficult until I get it.
I think it's a good training to be more precise after in real life ... 😉
I'll try the learning space when I'll have more times to do it !!

Bonjour, Alexandra! Je suis content que tu as rejoint cette groupe!
Good for you working out here every day for 2 weeks, high five! ✋
Same, some moments I think I've got this down, then 30 seconds later I realize I know nothing haha, but so good to see the progress over time. I can especially feel the compression games really working my brain. What's you're favourite game so far?

I'm good in spatialization, DB King or reverb.
I don't like compression games at all 😝

Okay, good to know who I can cry to on my bad compression game days! 😅

Yes, reverb detection, DB King makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. Pan Girl though, it's trickier than I thought. I think I'm blind to mild left pans, I always think they're on the right. :P I wonder if we have a dominant ear and non-dominant ear, like eyes and hands...?

You do it with monitors or ears ?
It's easier on monitors for sure !
You can also doing a test with doctor ears (or something like that I don't remember 😝 here in sound gym) to know if your ears are similar or not.

Scuze ... headphones not ears (I'm French sorry, everybody knows we are bad in English 😂)

@Marysia Marisha I totally have that experience with Pan Girl! I am beginning to wonder if my headphones (or my hearing) is off balance, because those close-to-centre pans often sound like they're on the right hand side. But no... there it is again L 0.2 😆

@Alexandra Escalle I'm using headphones, but that's a really good point, I should try it with my monitors too. Yes I did try that hearing test, I think both ears were pretty close but I will try it again, maybe even if there is a slight difference, it explains what I'm finding in Pan Girl. ..And your English is great! (much better than my French!) :)

@Karyn Ellis Ok it's not just me! 😅

Hmm I went to do the hearing test again and can't find it... Do we only get one chance or is it hiding in plain sight here? If someone sees how to get to the hearing test in SoundGym, could you please post the link or directions? thx!

I'm curious... why would it be easier to hear through monitors rather than headphones? I've heard that said before too. But intuitively, it seems like it should be the reverse!

Thank you, @Alexandra Escalle -- I found the ear doctor, and my ears are almost identical, but the left is 1% better than the right... hmm.

@Karyn Ellis
With monitor speakers serving as deliberately positioned sound sources in a physical space, the natural timing and volume differences with which the signals produced by each one arrive at both of your ears (the phenomenon known as crossfeed) yield a realistically representative soundstage, which enables precise and accurate placement of instruments in the stereo field.

Headphones, on the other hand, feed directly into each ear, greatly exaggerating stereo width, and thereby clouding your judgment of panning and stereo effects processing – reverb, delay, etc.

From here : https://audient.com/tutorial/monitors-vs-headphones-for-mixing/

If you try on monitors ans close your eyes, you see the instrument in front of you.
With headphones it's not in front of you and not natural

@Alexandra Escalle Thanks for that explanation, that makes sense. I'm going to give Pan Girl a try with my monitors.

@Alexandra Escalle Fascinating! Thank you for the explanation! Unfortunately, I haven't set up any nearfields in my space yet I'm still building up my home studio, and have been making due with headphones and tiny computer speakers at the moment. My guitarist has offered me a pair of decent speakers and an amp that he's not using. I just need to go pick them up (about an hour away.) This might just be the kick in the butt I need to go get them... thanks!
