for me its blindly picking the freq that was boosted or cut. I'm so used to sweeping the EQ to find the sound so just looking at numbers without the ability to hear that freq is difficult.
For me - Bass Detective and also Cutting and Boosting EQ games, also DB King
Eliminate feedback is not that hard, if you can hear notes, then math can be applied to calculate exact frequencies in different octaves. I got most progress over there
I did worst with the balance game so I've mostly ignored it. I don't agree with their scoring, plus because there's no gradient, it makes it hard to even want to conquer it because IMO the design of that game works more against learning than encouraging it.
This game would be far better & easier to learn from & eventually make great scores but they either don't see how easy it would be to let people compare them back & forth & than later begin to put a ceiling on how many times you can compare & then when you've mastered that - they can take away the ability to compare & do it from memory.
That way you'd be building skill on a gradient instead of making it far too difficult for beginning.
Because I can't influence how they present their games & because they don't accept viable suggestions or requests -- I don't care much about the ones I don't do well with because I just put almost all my focus on where I'm doing well - & trust that as I build skills in other areas where I make more progress - that as I return to the harder ones - they get easier.
Clearly soundgym isn't about being the best they can be. They just want to coast on what they've got. I can't do anything about that so I focus only on what I CAN do & forget about all the stuff they are not providing.
Easiest for me was defo Pan Girl and with that DB king as both are in the loudness dimension, the hardest was and even still is Cut King, followed by EQ mirror and EQ cheetah. Peak master wasn't easy at first, but after this : http://www.soundgym.co/space/talk?id=EQPL4AJJKMD&t=1B0MQSJOXIW nice explanation that helped me labeling different bands it became much easier, including EQ Mirror and Cheetah.
So interesting to see how everyone finds different games more or less difficult! Definitely don't see any kind of pattern here haha.
I think I found DB king really easy for the first few levels, and then it got to be one of the hardest for me pretty quick - the differences were too subtle. 4db vs 3db or 10db vs 14db, 1db vs 1.5db, has been really hard for me to tell. It feels like there isn't anything to reference to unlike frequencies which you can reference vowel sounds to, or hum. So with DB King it just feels mostly intuitive.
The EQ games are my strongest. EQ Mirror I found rather easy starting out because you have infinite time to keep going back and forth and this is practically the closest to what I've been doing for 15+ years in my sessions with EQs already.
I found distortion and compression pretty easy for the first few levels until it got really subtle and I got stuck and needed to take more time with it. Similar with Reverb. Really easy at first for me then after it got really subtle I had to start really slowing down and taking more time with it.
Delay was easy until it got to the 5ms vs 15ms or 200 vs 250 ms kinda stuff.
Balance Memory I had no issues with and am just starting to find it a bit challenging at level 34. I didn't even know you could use the Life Line thing to listen to the original sound again until I got to like level 20+.
Pan Girl and Stereohead have been giving me more troubles from the get go, but I'm doing alright in them. I think it might have to do with my speaker set up.
So I find it funny that I kinda have the opposite experience of Mark. I found the EQ games easier, and Pan Girl and DB King harder haha!!
I also did a TON of EQ games early on. I did find Bass Detective quite challenging though compared to the others. Smaller range to work with, so right away you have to be more precise.
I found feedback eliminator pretty hard, bordering on impossible (I didn't understand how anyone was expected to memorize those specific notes without having perfect pitch) until I understood the way it links to the vowel sounds, and also humming and linking frequencies to my own voice for everything up to 800hz (for subs I hum the octave up).
Currently, DB King and Delay Control give me the hardest time. I've also definitely plateaued on the EQ games (with the exception of EQ mirror), because the selection range has gotten quite tiny. Distortion Reality is quite subtle and challenging now so it takes a long time for me to pass a level.
So yeah.. all over the place! Lol.
Eitherway, all the games get quite challenging at some point.
When I started, the most difficult seemed to me EQ Cheetah. I spent a long time without being able to pass level 2. That made me a little angry and I focused for a couple of weeks on that game and little by little I progressed and in a few days I went up in level until I reached 47. Now a long time ago I don't play and surely it would be very difficult for me to match the speed I reached in those days. I mean, the trick is to practice a lot.
