P.S. Everyone can choose the reference tracks he/she wants to mix the song but in order to have a same starting point to evaluate and compare our mixes, for the video, we’ll need to use the given references and rough mix so actually we do not judge each other but we compare our versions to songs that were professionally treated.
P.P.S. Please, consider doing additional researches regarding the reference tracks, using also different platforms, what I do it’s just give general suggestions ;P
Also there's a section were the vocal double track is not a double track at all, but an exact copy of the lead vocal line. Can't say I'm inspired much by this production. I may dabble a bit out of technical curiosity, but I don't see getting this one to the finish line.
What do you all make of the guitar recording technique? Why bother with 2 mics on every amp that sound almost identical? I'm likely gonna scrap half of those tracks unless someone can convince me what I should be doing with them.
@Tyson Arp I left that identical section in. I was thinking about using it for a delay throw or something. I had to tune some of the guitar performances as well. I also just picked the mic i liked better on each guitar and dropped the other one. I'm down to so few tracks now, that I think I'm going to get something decent without too much time. I overlooked the loose bass/kick timing. It's a mix rescue for that. I did run the bass through an amp sim and that helps. We shall see.
Done that, with satisfactory result. The double guitar tracks usually make for a fuller sound, so mostly I leave them both in. In this particular case as well, only not sure about the quadruple guitar track.
@Aart dB - i got OK results with Melodyne in polyphonic sustain mode on that guitar. I also eliminated some of the scratches and crap. I might have done a similar drum treatment. I was thinking 1980s John Cougar. Prepare to cringe a little.
@lychhay lim & @Roberto Salgado - you folks may want to repost your submissions to separate threads as it gets a bit messy to provide feedback here
2 props
