Week 23 - Lost My Way by Swinging Steaks
https://app.boombox.io/app/shares/cRJO4nBareZDqLlWN
This was a mix rescue for sure. I spent far too much time on pitch and vocal timing and still only got the vocals about half way there -- at the expense of the drums unfortunately. I did have a process revelation though: Prepping tracks in Reaper is sooo much easier than Logic. Reaper does ARA with VST3 plugins natively whereas Logic with its AU engine needs to run in Rosetta (a manual switch). Apple needs to get their shizz together. I usually use Auto Align 2 for drums and Melodyne for vocals. Both use ARA, so getting started requires no time at all. It's just a quick render after that and viola! Prepped tracks.

I faded this song out earlier than the band. The end is so boring that I almost recorded a guitar solo! LOL.

I used Colorful by The Verve Pipe as a reference.

it sounds pretty good to me, the only thing is that the bass may have a little too much saturation at the beginning, or my monitors are buzzing again :D but I agree with the boring ending, I would definitely like some solo and distant echo fade out

Ha! I put a fuzz pedal on bass2. That must be it. I was looking for some way to deal with that weird bass part. It probably buzzes the second time too. Or I lucked into some resonant frequency of your room. My room used to have a piece of metal ducting that vibrated somewhere in the low end.

Nice mix @Ron Allen I agree about the Bass, just a bit weird. Other than that, it is a really good mix.

Helloooo Ron, amazing mix!!! you made everything sound balanced and in place. I really enjoyed it. Some notes: maybe the type of compression you gave your drums didn't fit the song and it makes them sound more aggressive than they should (probably that's what you meant by at the expense of the drums) maybe if you had had more time they would be on point hehe. Also yeah bass transforms into like a synth at the intro xD 😂 maybe keeping it more true to the original? to maintain the direction and respect the artist view. And last but not least, balance is great, but I feel like i am missing a bit of clarity in the midrange, maybe by carving some space for the vocals or even giving vocals more body in the low mids and mids.

Just very small details that will make a great mix even better :) thanks 4 ur mix

Hi Ron, great work! Mix sounds smooth and well balanced. Soothing for the ears! The kick stands out a bit, and perhaps some more separation of the (lead) vocals from the instrumentation could be worked into the mix?

Hey @Ron Allen Great job man, I love it! Just a thing and tis a matter of taste, i need just a bit more of the toms in the fills. Thats all, awesome mix here

Hey Ron, nice job! The low-mids are a bit congested at the very beginning (intro section) and towards the end, when all the instruments play together, the kick thump is a bit too prominent, the ec guitar on the choruses is a bit low-mid heavy and loud, tends to compete with the lead vocal ;P

That's a great mix, Ron. This is super nit-picky but there's a frequency somewhere 5k or above that seems to be poking out a little harshly. And everyone else already mentioned the fuzz bass thing. Awesome mix overall!

A good mix. Solid work. If I were to nitpick, I would recommend paying attention to the guitars. Maybe they are a bit too loud? At times, they distract me from listening to the vocalist.
