P.S. Everyone can choose the reference tracks he/she wants to mix the song but in order to have a same starting point to evaluate and compare our mixes, for the video, we’ll need to use the given references and rough mix so actually we do not judge each other but we compare our versions to songs that were professionally treated.
P.P.S. Please, consider doing additional researches regarding the reference tracks, using also different platforms, what I do it’s just give general suggestions ;P
Hey @Anton SG , cool piece of music! Is it your band? What language is it in, Icelandic or Danish or something different? I am sure this is material for a great mix. Can you explain the different drum mics? the FT, RT and Center mics, what are their positions and functions?
If anyone is interested, I used Logic's new stem splitter to isolate the background vocal. It did a pretty good job. You can check it out and download here if you like. https://app.boombox.io/app/shares/cKZezLjyOGODvYxOd It sounds usable to me for the track.
Hey everyone thanks for the nice words! Yeah, it's my old band, we've released an album in 2021 as @Aart dB showed. I believe FT is Floor tom and RT is Rack tom and Center is a Mic located in the middle of the kit. Maybe some mics are shown in the livesession.
Hi @Ron Allen , what is it that's new, and in what way you might have de-essed to much without having a clue? Do you mean you are having a new insight, or is it related to this song?
By the way, thank you for your offer to share the stem split backing vox track. I won't be using it because I wouldn't learn from it. In stead I searched for stem spitters to do it myself. Found one by Bandlab.com/splitter which you can use online by uploading a track and splitting manually, with good results. So thanks for bringing it up. :)
In this language, I am not sure how the esses are supposed to sound and if I de-ess to my taste, will it sound weird to a native speaker? I am just using the reference track as a guide and hoping for the best.
The song is great, but I didn't get any stem splitter so I didn't feel comfortable posting anything, I only did the instrumental part of the song, didn't manage to get the vocals sit right. Maybe I will post mine on Wednesday if I manage to get a hold of a stem splitter. I use Ableton and as far as I know there is no stem splitter inside that DAW.
@Colin Aiken - i do too. I just discovered him about a month ago and he is so likable and really good at his job!
1 props
