Hi Holger, nice mix, I like that you managed to bring out the acoustic a bit. It does feel to me though like the mix is lacking in the highs & there's a bit of a box tone in general. The click on the kick also pokes through at points. Nice work.
Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist, but I find the choice to pan the bass off center a bit distracting. I would agree with Jason's comments on overall tonality. Compared to the other mixes I've listened to, yours has about 5-8 dB more in the 200-1khz area. Some careful cleaning in that area could help significantly.
I'm certainly no expert in mixing backup vocals, but I felt yours were too full and thick and I think you could get away with trimming a good bit of their bottom end off so they lift the chorus instead of weighing it down.
Hi Holger, I hear the mix starts very quietly, but later I understand that it's because the bass isn't loud enough. Your choice of bringing the acoustic guitar forward is very courageous. You bring out all the bleed from the other instruments and that makes it virtually impossible to bring back order into the mix. I think you could clear it up a little by cutting some low mids from both the vocal and the electric guitar. But by far the best decision would be to turn down the acoustic guitar track considerably, because apparently we don't miss much not hearing it. 😅
Wow, thanks for all the comments. Again I was only mixing 'on the road' with a very limited DAC and headphones. I was hoping to get used to it more and more but obviously not... As I'm on my way home now, I might be able to fix some things in my home environment for revision day. But I stiill want this accoustic guitar to be hearable. I want I want I want ;-) Let's see...
Hey Holger, nice one! The vocal is a bit muddy and loud (especially in the verses) the drum kit needs more presence and energy (except for the kick that is loud enough but could use more sub) the background vocals are a bit loud ;P
2 props
