I'm pretty rusty after a month away. I played this one for my wife and she said, Boring! Hope it's the song and not my mix. Feedback appreciated. I listened to band's mix and figured they were going for raw, fun, and loud, so I tried to deliver on that. https://app.boombox.io/app/shares/ckqE0oMQyyOMe4rZy (accidentally left a bunch of space at the end - it's not some fake ending I promise. This is a punk pop song, not a marvel movie)
Pretty solid and good energy! Perhaps considering carving a little out of the bass guitar around 200 hz? It feels a bit 'tubby' to me in that area. Also, maybe just a taste thing, but I'd like to hear a bit more crack from the snare and just have it cut through the mix a little more.
I haven't participated in this for a long time or done any mixing so my ears have become very untrained! This is the first I've listened to and it sounds cool. The only thing i'd criticise is the snare sound which is quite weak in the mix. I think the drums should be punchier in a punky/pop song like this. I haven't mixed this myself so I've no idea what the multi tracks were like to work with...
Ron, I definitely added some plate reverb to that snare. Also used Snarebuzz Pluggin to give it a little more excitement since all we had to work with was the batter head mike.
Tonally I think there is a sweet spot somewhere between your mix and mine. I like the energy you have in the midrange and the center of the stereo image, but I also like the crispness and clarity of mine.
Hi Ron!! I agree that the snare is a bit low, but for me the vocals could be a bit lower and then maybe the snare is more present. But in general it is a very good mix.
Hi Ron, very nice mix. Cool energy, good tone and balances. There are already good comments here. So I don't want to repeat everything. A small thing: for me the guitar solo is a little bit loud. The reverb/room you created for the lead vocal is fantastic. Congratulation, good mix!
