I’ve only very few time slots for the mix training but instead of skipping I decided to take it as an exercise from now on to practice mixing faster. ;) By the way: I’m interested in how many time do you guys spare approximately for these weekly mixes?
In general as far as remember I didn’t do anything special here besides regular eq and compression here and there and some verb and delay. Only thing was I felt that the snare could use a bit more crunch or rattle and that’s why I put a snare trigger in, but tried to be very subtle with it.
As always I’d very much appreciate your comments and ideas!
I think this mix was maybe 4 hours. I did ~3 hours of it one day then did final touches ~1hr with fresh ears the next day. I am also curious how long it takes. I know when I first started and with larger projects before I had a ok work flow it would be maybe 8 hours. I have not mixed in many years and getting back into it took me some time.
These weekly mixes were very helpful for me to get back into things and I have since mixed about 10 hours of music (9x1 hour live shows an 1 album) and then jumped back into doing these weekly mixes. I have noticed that I am much faster after all the practice!
Hi @Magghy Ji, Many thanks for your comment! I also noticed the saturation on the hammond but thought that was already printed on the track since I didn't really do anything directly on the hammond. Might be the summing, will have a look. And you're probably right, the rbass on the bass might be too much and might have brought up some resonances ;)
It's quite clear and everything has its place. I like the effect on the sawtooth synth.
If I were to be nitpicky, it's kind of flat. It doesn't really move. I feel like the solo instruments could pop out some more and add some dynamics and excitement.
I think it's helpful to give yourself some parameters and maybe focus on one thing each week. I typically will spend between 3-5 hours on a mix for this thread.
Hey Clemens, nice track. Agreed with comments above, Drums just need more around 100Hz and lit a bit less Modulation on Synth to me. Good job.
1 props
