PART I

'Ere SoundJim, 'ave a seat an' I'll tell you a tale about the bugs that ruin your platform.
On a dark and existential night, the slow servers were bound to fail 💀
Just east of Beast's Sight, late before the End of Ace, Cindy was extremely slowly increasing her score 🥱
On Playground, things were sailing away from normal...
Through the mist(akes) and bugs, a dark screenshot emerged from Qandy Queen's wand, a nonsensical 00:00:00 timer standing at its helm 🪄
Course set, intent clear, she hecked down upon us 😨
... Well, that's before servers went down ) (just like my mood to continue this parody lmao)

Speaking of which, thanks to them failing it made me realize my whole life was a lie... again 😩 )) That's because after the contest ended, on my post about my undeserved 1st place (I actually totally deserved it, but we'll get to that later), Cindy said that she can play a game for however long she wants (usually 45 minutes). And I was like uh... what? Like I've been playing games every time for a max of almost 9m (original 180s + bonus 343s from 49 correct answers) and you tell me that you have infinite time?! 🤯 How's that even possible...

Well, Cindy didn't have any intention of hiding anything from me. She thought I'm already doing the infinite time trick because a couple months ago I made a post talking about the "hidden" stages. Yet it was never about anything secret but about the new stages SG intentionally added, infinite time bug not being part of the plan xd (Though I'm curious... was this bug present before the new stages? Because if that's true, I'm thinking Bahram abused it to get those insane high scores)

I'm assuming the vast majority of people have no idea about this because if they had, then the scores wouldn't be so pathetically low. Therefore I believe everybody has the right to know it: after the timer ends and you get redirected to the "Continue" screen, if you press the spacebar, the remaining stages will appear and you'll be able to play with no time limit. The main reason I didn't discover this is that my right hand is on the mouse and left hand is on the arrow keys (left and right, to switch from question to yours) and it's uncomfortable for me to switch to spacebar. It'd distract me a bit and it's faster to just click confirm and continue. And another reason is that sometimes, as a beast, I'd finish 'em all before the official time runs out and therefore I'd have no remaining stages ) (but that obviously comes at the cost of accuracy)

Why am I saying I deserved the 1st place on the last ace despite Cindy having unlucky timing with the servers dying? Because she never actually deserved the 1st place at any ace in the first... place )) Yes, I'm a fool for not discovering the bug she used to gain massive advantage over us mere unaware mortals, but ethically speaking, that's cheating. Sure, rules are the same for everyone, but infinite time is a bug, not a feature (a contest without a time limit makes no sense) and therefore it's unethical to abuse it without most people knowing about it. Cindy B, and others who abused it like Bahram Dashti (the guy with multiple personalities who appears out of nowhere scoring astronomically high and then ridiculously low after, you have a weird humor dude 🤣) and David Alva (who claimed his Drums HD score QUINTUPLED because of "new headphones"... what a joke 😂)

Did my little roast trigger some snowflakes? ⛄ I love how it's perceived as if everyone else has the right to roast me but not the other way around )) It's fun so let's keep doing it but make sure it's quality! )) Anyway, Yo Mike's gonna be like "survival of the fittest" )) in the sense that people who win thanks to dirty tactics deserve it because it's fair to use something that's technically available to everyone. While I do agree with that, it's unfair from a growth perspective. Do we really want to grow our skills? Or do we want to win just for the sake of looking (but not actually being) cool? As any other living bunch of atoms ⚛️ I enjoy winning of course, but an unfair victory is unsatisfying.

But you know what, maybe you don't agree with me. SG is the one in control anyway so why does my opinion matter? Because SG proved to agree with these statements indirectly by almost banning me back in January for trying to win the championship by cheating. Why did I cheat? Because the actual winner of that month cheated first. Was it justified? No, SG clearly explained that if this happens in the future again, I should report the cheaters instead of doing the same. And they're right, except people are not the problem but the holes this platform has 🕳️ Obviously, there'll always be vulnerabilies that can be abused in a way or another (the system can't be perfect), but they can be reduced drastically... Well, hear goes...........
To me, if you find a bug or exploit that clearly isn’t part of the game, report it as soon as discovered. I’m not seeing any positive purpose, benefit or outcomes from continuing to exploit it after that.

The duels spinner, simple solution, turn it off till it can be fixed.

My thinking at this point is that EQ Ace should be suspended until issues can be fixed and reset the top scores as they are meaningless at this point.

As for a relaunched/fixed/improved EQ Ace game, my thoughts would be as follows:

Fixed maximum game time, therefore no time deductions for answers in the red and no increases for correct answers in green zone. 4mins to me is plenty, 3mins would be my preference. When time up, its done.

Fixed number of stages/levels, so once you reach that level, game ends regardless of any time left on the timer.

Time runs out on a low level, try going faster with less accuracy. Reach max level with excess time remaining, slow down to attempt more accuracy. So balancing speed and accuracy would be how maximum scores would be obtained.

That’s my 2 coin worth of input......

Sorry, but cheating because you can, or to "raise awareness" is still cheating.

Integrity - use it.

It actually hurts everybody, because those of us who do this to make ourselves better professionally, it's nice to compare against "the best". The abnormally high scores mean nothing, and if you're actually good for real, you remove yourself from the pool of real comoarisons to "the best".

SoundGym can do or not do whatever they like, they own the service. Users can choose whether they use it or not. So, let’s just agree to disagree on what’s motivation for change.

I never thought the game had unlimited/infinite levels. My thoughts on changing the game to have fixed maximum time with fixed number of levels is that, it would hopefully encourage balancing speed and accuracy in a given time frame (more of a real world application in my mind) to achieve the best score.

Sure, maybe you could attempt to speed past the lower levels scoring very little points so as to spend the majority of the fixed time on the last levels to max out your score. I don’t see much to be gained in that scenario.

You could discourage that issue by only allowing the EQ to be turned on/off a limited amount of times. Maybe, number of bands/filters (n), plus a value like 3. Level 1 with one bands/filter would allow 4 on/off comparisons (1+3), Level 30 (or whatever #) with say 6 bands/filters would allow 9 on/off comparisons (6+3).

Whatever the parameters of a game are, some people will look for ways to “game” the system and circumvent rules, best that can be done is to try and minimize, but can’t be eliminated.

For people that want to spend unlimited time tweaking EQ settings, use the training options and/or for paid pro users, EQ Mirror is well suited for that.

Grumpy old man rant “ON” read on or press BYPASS and stop reading

Given all the other crap (covid) everyone has and is continuing to dealing with these days and past, so many things missed, cancelled, restricted and divided, really dishearten to see people attacking each other in a place that’s focus is improving/mentoring/celebrating peoples passion for music and audio.
Trying to keep it positive, Grumpy old man rant “OFF”

I’ll try to explain it better:

With the levels/time, what I mean is that the game would have a certain # of levels, say 30 and time max time, say 4mins.

So game ends either by:

i) The time runs out, no matter if you’re on level 1 or the last level (ie 30)

ii) Reaching the last level (ie 30) and pressing Confirm button, no matter the time (if any) remaining.

I’d add that if you get to the last level and you didn’t press confirm before the time runs out, it would end and score for that level would be as if the confirm button was press. That way you wouldn't have to worry about not having pressed confirm in time on that final level and losing the points.

So, on average 8 seconds per level to max out, obviously, less time would be needed on lower levels vs higher ones. Thus the balancing act with speed and accuracy. Hopefully this is a better explanation.

Edit: Max score would achieved by getting 100% (or as close to it) on every level, in the event of users with the same score, the precedence will be ranked higher, just like Olympics

Plus this:

1) no time deductions for answers in the red and no increases for correct answers in green zone.

2) only allowing the EQ to be turned on/off a limited amount of times. Maybe, number of bands/filters (n), plus a value like 3. Level 1 with one bands/filter would allow 4 on/off comparisons (1+3), Level 30 (or whatever #) with say 6 bands/filters would allow 9 on/off comparisons (6+3).

Regardless, SoundGym will make whatever changes they want. This is about all the input I have for this topic

It was obvious that there were some tricks or cheats behind such high scores. This past week Cindy, honestly uncovered the secret and out of curiosity I tried it, I went from 4000 points to 14000. I hope SG fixes it and cancels all the fraudulent scores including mine. Those of you who have been doing this for a while should at least apologize. And I don't plan on participating until they fix it

They fixed that bug? BRUH I never even had a chance to try it out. I think I deserve a special medal for winning beatrace legend without knowing any tricks.
