Hey guys/gals! I made this triphop song this summer (production, mixing, mastering). I’m really proud of the result but would like to lend your critical ears. Please let me know what you think, it will be much appreciated!

Hey Joey!
Nice job, the track sounds great! I would not lean too much into critical feedback unless you feel you came up short with an issue in the production, mixing or mastering. Outside of that it is all personal taste and you could have 10 people saying 10 different things.
Congratulations on writing this song, producing it, mixing and mastering it and sharing it!!!

Asking for mix critique on this song is like Oleksandr Usyk asking for advice on how to throw a right hook... This is really good stuff :)

Hey Joey.
I think you did wonderful work here! the track feels like it opened up a space where everything happening. there is a place to breath between the front and the back, and you use pan and delay in a smart way to create wide stereo image while keeping focus in the middle.

Well done!

The intro hooked me :-) Sounds great. The bass synth sounds stands out. I think it needs to be knocked down a db or two. I wasn't able to hear the song at full volume on either my headphone or my stereo which is where I check bass. Other than that it sounds very much like I expect it to sounds which is the hall mark of pro I believe.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone! I'm quite proud of the results, but it's not perfect. There's a tiny bit too much bass, indeed. I also feel like there's a bit too much high-end in the intro and other quiet parts. When everything is busy I can't hear it as much. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for taking the time to listen. :)

I think mastering wise, you could push this a little hotter if you reduce the sub bass by 1-3db. You definitely want that heavy bass still but it eats up tons of headroom. I'd look into maybe saturating it a bit more so you can still hear the presence but then you don't get as much of the bottom end.

Overall though it sounds great! You could totally release it as is.

Hey Joey,
that's really cool, sounds very good, big congratulation! May be I would reduce the level differences between the quiet and loud passages just a little bit.

Joey, the production, mix and master is fantastic!! I can hear this track being used in sync for a scene in a vampire movie! Please post a link to the reference you used to create this track.

Hi Joey, this sounds really good to me. I don't think that it needs any changes, but since you're looking for constructive criticism, I'll leave a couple of comments here.
1. There's a lead or mid bass around 1:30 I believe that sounds really nice, but the volume varies a bit much for my ears as you're modulating the effects, so maybe some extra compression there.
2. The transition from the first break to the beat coming back in feels just a little abrupt to me, so something like a short noise riser there could smooth it out. If you did do that, I think it should be pretty subtle though so that's it's just bridging the sections in a non-intrusive way.
3. The ride cymbal that (I think) comes in after the break feels a little down and could come down slightly in the mix.

Seriously though, the only reason any of this stuck out to me is because you asked for feedback, so that's the headspace I was listening in. If I just heard this track, from a normal listening headspace, I don't think any. of that would have stuck out. It sounds really good!
