Can anyone give tips on EQ Cheetah? I reached level 10 and above on most games, and I'm still stuck at Level 1 with this game. I find using songs help, because I've heard those many times during other games, but I still can't get 25 good answers in time.
I'm the opposite, everything else I'm at level 13 average but EQ Cheetah I'm level 38, biggest thing that's helped me is when you first start out, use the same sounds for every game. Like you said I started off using the "song" option, that way I got used to how it normally sounds vs edited quickly. This works with a lot of other games as well. If you don't panic and take a couple seconds to think when you're really unsure you may still have time to get 25 answers in, it's the delay of getting wrong answers that will hurt you the most. I also usually do my workouts at night! And I didn't know that either Edwin, so thanks!
Annabelle has the same thought process as me, although I would like to suggest using something with a nice frequency range (such as the songs option, or piano, or synths etc...) and avoid something with not as great of a range. It's much easier to hear the boosts when you are listening to something which has a lot of range as it will clearly outline things for you. Keep practicing, I was terrible too when I first started :p
Relative pitch really helps for this, and if you arent already doing it well here is a tip: After even a mistake, you should be storing the relative frequency on the frequency line. Say you missed a 6k noise, ok now thats what 6k sounds like. next time you hear a 8k or 4k you'll know because its similar to the 6k you referenced in your head but either a little above or below. Getting better to storing these relative "reference frequencies" is the key to being good at EQ Cheetah. Because if you can get to the point where you are good at storing the frequencies as they show up, the game actually gets easier over time!
Annabelle , I would say sticking to one sound can be great to understand where the frequencies are. I would also say that ultimately learning the frequencies over a variety of instruments will benefit your mix the most.
I would say, over a certain level, you have no time to use the keyboard shortcut or to hear to the original at all. You have to know the boosted frequency without knowing the original ;)
I was struggling too. The trick, for me, was to not compare back with the effect off, and guess from my memory of the original. Also a good thing to not aim for range (within the selection window) rather than exact fequency. Hope it helps!
use one sound source for a while. once you can actually do it, then start switching it up. i disagree with Edwin. before i started sound gym, i was deaf to frequencies essentially. i stuck with the songs for a long time on the EQ games, but now i can switch to other sound sources and still do well, so that proves the skills still carry over to all sound sources.
I unchecked Cheetah as a game for my daily workouts. May revisit when I reach Diamond Ears Award.
