Headphones here

Most users play with headphones. But there are some games where you need true stereophonic perception, for example, Pangirl. Make sure you properly position your monitors according to Harry Olson's theory and use appropriate acoustic treatment. If this isn't the case for you, playing with headphones is better. Good look! 💿🙌

Try not to gear trap yourself - if you can't CLEARLY tell where something is failing you, then you're fine without it. Whatever you use to make music is perfect for SoundGym c:

Whatever your using, this the right place for improving your listening skills. Welcome and Enjoy!

I use speakers. I guess the main thing is to use the same setup you use when you're mixing/producing.

I use both, I think is important too switch with the different hardware we´ve got to listen the differences and make a better approach of your equipment and your learning experience here.

Id highly advise you to use all the different gear that you also use to produce on. Which should ideally include some studio monitors, studio headphones and some earphones. A small bluetooth speaker or other mono speaker can also be great to check your mixes though not all of the exercises will be possible with that.

I use headphones for everything except the panning games. I find it much easier to detect direction when the sound is coming from speakers than headphones.

I use only headphones, don't have monitors.
Currently Struggle with panning.

Lilke @Aike East mentioned, try to use all of your gear. The whole idea is to learn to identify how your space sounds.

That said, I highly recommend that both, your monitors and your headphones are as flat sounding as possible (either with room treatment, good brands, calibration software, etc). In my case, my room is not treated but i have SoundID for speaker calibration and I also bought my headphones from them.

This is a greaaaaaat and fuuuuun place... welcome aboard !!!! You are about to be transformed !

Forgot to menion... SPI points wont make you magically better. Forcing your ear and consciously trying to learn will. Repeat the things where you struggle and as you play, remember that you are not just trying to pass a level, you are learning. In the end, learning, not earning a badge, is the final goal.

Cheers mate !

I kinda go back and forth. my monitor setup is getting better (I've got ARC, and finally got around to putting up some critical sounds absorption, etc.) so I actually enjoy using the monitors now. I'd say I'm still 70/30 (headphones/monitors)

I play everything except the spatial games with headphones and switch to monitors for the panning and stereo field games. I just find it very difficult to correctly identify direction with headphones. However, I don't have a subwoofer on my monitors, so the headphones give me better sub sound for all the other games.
