Depends on if you want to use plugins when laying down the initial track. I prefer to just record straight. I have an Apollo x8p so I like the built-in preamps. You could create a template including a preamp and possibly a limiter. I recommend against any pitch modification.
Templates are what professionals use for workflow. It doesn't make sense to build a session, from scratch, every time you start a new project. However, when it comes to vocals, it's better to make sure your (1) Acoustic environment is controlled and treated, (2) you've experimented with microphone types and distances from the source, (3) Your Mic pre-amps and audio interface levels are at a healthy line level going into your DAW of choice (waveform fills the middle 3rd of your clip),(4) You have done vocal warm ups and Drills prior to singing the first, in tune, notes. (5) You deliver an emotionally charged performance.
Your template is just for window dressing.
