so im a sound engineer and music producer cause i cant affored anyone to do anything for me and im 17 learning all this technical stuff, just a quick flex, JK. anyways reason why i say any of that is because first i became a music producer out of love and i became a audio engineer out of brokness and i love it now too, now im making a bigger step into getting even more techy about sound, im thinking about building my very own set of studio monitors to cut money and well, for fun. now for the obvious i dont have a treated room, i mean all the stuff around my room makes it sound treated very well, maybe not for recording but better than nothing, i have a small room and my bed is taking up half of it. not too small i just got a big bed thats all, my question is. i really want a studio and making speakers i feel will build a relationship with this audio stuff and grow that inspiration to get more down in this field, i also want to build acoustic panels, should i go all out on my room or wait until i buy a studio like home? sometimes i wonder if i should slow down and wait until i get my actual studio, which will be in a very long time because it will be expensive and even more now that im learning about audio and sound a lot. what are your thoughts?

Hey mate! Nice to hear that you are inspired to improve yourself, the best advice that i can give to you is buy a great open-back headphone before investing on acoustics or expensive monitors, the room will never sound ideal until you put a lot of stuff trust me.. and there is cost of monitors. So avoid all that easily with the headphone. Open-back Sennheisers are pretty good, Audeze, Hifiman, etc..

Do whatever your heart desires man. At the end of the day it's all fun and learning. Don't stress about the price. Just don't be stupid with your money. And it's really not that expensive to decently treat your room. I have sound panels from amazon that were around $100 and I've have been using them for years and they still do me justice. Now I have songs with Lil Baby, Gunna, Etc. Just do whatever you want. The world is yours.

your room doesnt have to be all out treated. if you can center your listening position in the room and treat the side walls from where the monitors are to your ears with some DIY panels (mine are 4 thick), and the corners, and the ceiling from the monitors to your ears with some panels you can buy on amazon, then your doing something, for less than $200. regardless what monitors you get they are still gonna reflect off your desk but in time you will get to know your monitors. Put random stuff in the back of the room to act as a diffusion (couch, chairs, ) now you can spend more on your monitors.

All great advice above. I'll add that Slate VSX is a great tool.

if you can afford it do it.... that's all there's to it, if you can't then don't and stick with working in the Box.

Quality speakers and properly treated space sound like they're a ways off - meanwhile I recommend good headphones and crosstalk software. I highly rate iRealphones.
