I'm Alex, 26 years old, and I'm searching for audio engineers (and artists) in Berlin!
Around two years ago I got deeply interested in the art of listening. I started (as most of us) with cheap headphones and when I got better ones I knew I had to train my hearing to adapt to them. That's how I came across Soundgym. It helped me a lot!
Of course I did not stop there. I wanted to build my own home studio, but I wanted to do it as best as possible right away. So I spent a few months studying the basics of room acoustics and building acoustic panels. Why do a lot of audio engineers consider it a less interesting necessity? I was fascinated on how adding a pair of absorbers at a time influenced the sound!
I finished my studio two months ago and now I feel ready for the next step. My dream is to make use of my gained knowledge (and passion!) and find my way into being an audio engineer.
I want to go all in. I consider Berlin a good starting point to make contacts and find mentors. I'm from southern Germany, so german is my native language and my english is (mostly) fluent. I stay in Berlin the whole August with the option of moving here.
I bring with me a decent theoretical knowledge about audio, advanced listening skills, enthusiasm and a great will to learn. Of course, if desired, I would help you at work wherever I can. I know Ableton really well and I'm learning Pro Tools right now.
I would really enjoy talking to like minded people (engineers and artists alike - since mindset is the most important). Also tips for other communities and platforms to connect with engineers are highly appreciated.
hey Alex, nice to meet you. I am also 26 and live in Germany. I would suggest you the book: Mastering Audio the Art and The Science. One of the best books I know.
Falls du fragen hast kannst du mir jederzeit schreiben ;-)
I already did that (I also explored the software and measured stuff like Impulse Response if I remember correctly). I even used REW right from the beginning when building my studio, since I positioned myself in the spot with the most convenient bass response. I have a major dip around 90 Hz but the rest is ok. Couldn't deal with reverb time of the bass though, since I was not able to treat the backside of my room. On top I use Sonarworks.
Studio looking great!! @Alex M Please educate me on the importance of the panels on your ceiling...I've seen people do that but I don't know why. Thanks....and congratulations!
@Cedz Imagination First reflection points are also on the ceiling, not just on the sides (and the ground). Like the other absorbers placed at these reflection points, they reduce the reverb of your room. Analogy to a digital picture: higher resolution
