Hello everyone! I feel like i'm stuck at EQ Cheetah, however other EQ games I do well. I feel like I'm a bit slow for determining which frequency range is being boosted I guess I need about 10 seconds to tell you exactly which frequency is boosted, but it's really to long to pass to the next level. Right now I'm at level 2. However ifor all other EQ games my level is above 9th level
How long have you been on soundgym for? How much time a day do you put into soundgym training? When I play games like eq cheetah, I don't think of the exact frequency I'm hearing. I just go to around what sounds like the area it would be in. It takes a while to train the ears. In my opinion i wouldn't bother with that game too much, play the other eq games and get really familiar with how certain eq areas sound, then when you're more comfortable go back to eq cheetah and try it out again.
EQ cheetah I think is actually really good for learning EQ intuitively. It gives you a really quick response/feedback, and forces you to have to trust your gut, and you can just power through as quickly and as many times as you can. I think this gives the brain a lot of information to integrate after a practice session which speeds up improvement.. but I can't confirm this haha - need to consult a neuroscientist or neuroscience paper for that.
My experience with it has been that it really improved my ability to hear EQ the quickest. I can't say exactly why this happens, but something about the way it's more intuitive than mental seems to help. I hadn't even moved on to the vowel stuff (that I know you were talking about in other posts for hearing EQ) until a significant time later, when I hit a plateau. That's when I needed to figure out the vowel stuff etc, which was a godsend and has helped me get past that plateau.
I've played EQ Cheetah more than any other game - currently 391 times (total of 1826 games at this point).
I'd say just do like 10-20 rounds in a sitting. Either the same sound for one sitting or other rounds. And don't worry at all about making mistakes. Think of it as a calibration - the learning will happen on its own. And try and do some rounds every day, maybe twice a day if you can. I think you'll start to notice an improvement happen on its own. That's at least what happened to me. I wouldn't necessarily notice an improvement during a practice session, but each subsequent day I was getting better.
Also, make sure to use the left and right arrow keys at first - they really speed up the process of comparing the EQ. Afterwards, when you get better, try not to compare at all - usually when you're more familiar with the sound you can identify the boosted frequency right away. And then double check only when you're stumped. But if you're on level two, use the arrow keys to compare.
If you really can't tell what EQ you're hearing, then yeah spend more time on the other EQ games first like Almog suggested. But if you're on level 9+ with the other games, it sounds like you can hear it, it just takes you time, and that's when more rounds of EQ cheetah may actually really benefit you and speed up the natural learning process. That's what I think, but can never know what effect it will actually have on a given individual.
Goodluck! My suggestion is don't abandon EQ cheetah! I think it is hugely beneficial (at least if your goal is to improve your ability to hear EQ).
