Hello everyone. Is there someone who can fully explain the use of a clipper in mastering? For example, how many dB should we cut? Should we use oversampling? Should we cut softly or hard? You can also explain it using the Peakeater plugin. Thank you :)
A clipper in the context of a master varies depending on the context or purpose for which you wish to use it. It can be used to create more headroom in a Master for when you limit it by putting it early in the chain (before compression) in order to reduce the gain reduction in the limiter therefore conserving dynamics (and to answer your question around 3 to 3 db or clipping should do i)
Another way of using a clipper (and I recommend doing this first) is to take care of any rogue Peaks in the waveform.
Unfourtanately I don't have the plugin your using but I hope my explanation helped you.
Kadir, Mastering.com has a free course on mastering (go to their web page, then check out the free courses). The course has modules on the dynamic spectrum and loudness; I'm sure they have the answers to your questions in those modules.
