few sections to make it shorter. It'll probably lose most of the intro, and one of the breaks as well as another section or two.

I definitely need to tidy up the electric guitar, and I'm curious on everyone's thoughts on the bass. I feel it may be a little overpowering in the low end.

Thanks so much for listening and for whatever thoughts you have!

Hi Doctor :) Great intro, really atmospheric! Just one personal note: I usually like to keep the intro fairly compressed (75% works well) and then bring it back to 100% of the stereo image when the kick comes in or the track starts. (In this track, at 50 seconds, for example.)

Another technique I'm experimenting with right now is this: keep the stereo at 120–125%, then—on the last beat or just before it (you'll have to test it out)—cut it down to 75% and bring it back up to 100% when the track kicks in! This is fantastic in breaks, but it also works in intros, as in this case, which would give you the opening you want in the intro, and then by fading out, you get the impact of the opening when you return to 100%.

I like the guitar!
I get the impression that at 1:50 (when all the instruments come in, the kick gets slightly lost)—check that anything that might be covering it is sidechained. Then, after the break at 3:39, it comes back into its place and I hear it better. Is it just me, or did you do something to the kick earlier? I like the pan you gave the percussion. Always pay attention to the volumes; generally (even if it’s just perceived), they should never overpower the kick. (I say this, but many times I don’t realize it myself and get carried away by the groove.)
In any case, the percussion sounds good!
To me, the low frequencies don’t seem too intrusive... but wait to hear other comments too!
Great work :)

The gitar (sitar) in the intro has quite some harsh frequencies same as the crash at 0:50, could use some soothe or similar processing in my opinion. I think your intuition about the bass is on point. I like thats its round it feels very satisfying but it might lack a little presence in the low-mids. Probably why you turned it up just a tad too high.

Other than that its not really my style of music but it was still a very interesting listen. I think at most parts of the song you've done a great job at focusing the track on the right amount of instruments. Some parts might still be a bit complex and sort of confuse where the focus should be. I think that happens a little at some points when you introduce percussion. It might break immersion/trance state which i guess is the main driver in this genre. I do like the Eastern style instruments and percussion, sounds very mystical.

Full disclosure my ears might be a tad out of practice and i listened on my KZ ZSN Pro 2s instead of headphones or studio monitors.

@Vittorio Di Rocco Thanks! Interesting thoughts on the stereo image, I like the idea and will see about using it in some places. I am using that technique on single instruments in a few spots, but it honestly probably gets somewhat lost. I'm not sure about the kick drum. I will have to look into it. At some points it does have a low pass or high pass, and I did turn it down in a few spots. I'll be sure to check it's suiting the track.

Thanks for the feedback @Aike East. On my last listen I was wondering if that instrument (it's a tanpura in kontakt) was too resonant, so it's useful to hear you felt that it is. Good call about the bass too. I'll give it a little more in the low mids and see what happens. And I'll see about reducing some of my clutter throughout the track. That's something I always struggle with.

I think I need treble detective.

Bass detective has really helped me identify the nuanced differences in the low-end but now I'm lop-sided.
I want the exact same game but for 8 - 12 khz instead of 50 - 400 hz, please! The coding is already done, just shift the range and voila!

🤞🤞🤞🤞

Hey! Looking for some feedback. I made this song all by myself from scratch with my girlfriend (Her voice). We both are starting a band in Lithuania (hence the lithuanian lyrics:)) and this will be our debut song so its extra special and it would be amazing to hear your thoughts. Hey Kristupas, just like what Doctor Mojo mentioned, I think the guitars need EQ just to avoid masking the lead vocals.
For me, the first thing I notice was the vocals are too bright, very hissy sounding. I personally would turn down the bass almost so slightly for sonic balance and I think the kick drum could use a little more dynamic consistency.
I could be wrong, I wrote this based on my taste and judgment. Very cool track nonetheless.
I hope this helps.

Hey - Was this track mastered or just mixed? If it's mastered the level is a little low. I'm getting short-term LUFS of -10 instead of -8 or 7.

Some mud in the 800Khz range. You're also getting large spikes in the 8k range so maybe some de-essing. You can also see the level of the bass at around 125Hz

Just my 2 cents :)

Hey guys, I invite you to listen to this song;)

Your Monitor Knob Is Lying to You
Mixing loud feels like you're in control. You're not. Your ears are flattering your low end and you don't even know it. New article breaks down why your monitor volume is one of the most overlooked variables in every mix decision you make. 🔊
